SMITHFIELD NOCTURNE RAISES £2000 FOR LORD MAYOR'S APPEAL

31/07/08

The Smithfield Nocturne developed closer ties to the City of London in 2008 working exclusively with the Lord Mayor's Appeal as official charity partner.

To help raise money for the Appeal event organisers FACE created a new race aptly titled, the City of London Team Challenge. The race, aimed at city firms, saw five teams of four compete in a lung busting relay of the challenging course around Smithfield Market.

City based insurance specialists Lloyd and Partners proved victorious in the inaugural race beating rival teams from Citihub, CMC Markets, House of Commons and FACE.

To link with the 2008 Appeal charities ORBIS and Wellbeing for Women the FACE team was comprised of all women. Despite finishing behind the all male city teams the FACE girls enjoyed the experience and helped raise £2000 for the Appeal.

Event Director James Pope and team FACE competitor Charlotte Easton met the Lord Mayor, David Lewis and Lord Mayor's Appeal Director, Wendy Lloyd on 31st July to present the contribution.

FACE now plan to develop the race for the 2009 Smithfield Nocturne and continue to raise funds for the Appeal,

“Part of the philosophy behind the Smithfield Nocturne has always been to benefit the wider community around the event”, commented Pope. “The Team Challenge was a bit of a pilot scheme this year so we hope to attract more city teams in 2009 and raise more money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.”

The City of London Corporate Challenge
City firms are invited to enter a team of four to race the City of London challenge and claim the glory of the fastest business in the city. The adrenalin and excitement will be more than enough to fuel your competitive spirit especially with bragging rights over your city rivals up for grabs.

The teams will race in a relay on the challenging Smithfield Nocturne course in front of crowds in excess of 5000. Each rider will race two laps (approx 2km each) before the next rider sets off, with the winners the fastest to cover the distance.

As well as enjoying the racing the City of London challenge will raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
